In Chinese culture, jade is highly revered not only for its physical beauty and durability but also for its deep spiritual and metaphysical significance. Over thousands of years, jade has been seen as a symbol of purity, wisdom, and protection, often associated with both earthly and spiritual realm

Jade is considered a representation of purity and moral integrity. Its smooth texture and translucent quality were believed to symbolize the pure and virtuous soul. The Chinese have historically viewed jade as a stone capable of cultivating noble qualities, such as kindness, humility, and compassion

In Chinese folklore and Taoist philosophy, jade is linked to immortality and eternal life. The stone was believed to possess magical properties, able to ward off evil spirits and ensure a harmonious afterlife. Jade burial objects, such as those used in ancient royal tombs, were intended to protect the soul and preserve the body in the afterlife.

Chinese scholars have long believed that jade embodies five virtues:

    • Benevolence
    • Wisdom
    • Bravery
    • Purity
    • Harmony

Jade is believed to have protective qualities, acting as a shield against harmful energies and physical ailments. It was common for Chinese people to wear jade amulets, pendants, and bracelets to protect against negative influences. The stone was also used in healing practices, as it was thought to have the ability to calm the mind and balance the body’s energies.

Taoism views jade as a connection to the divine and the natural order. In Taoist philosophy, jade is seen as a symbol of the ideal balance of yin and yang, representing harmony between opposites. In Buddhism, jade is associated with spiritual enlightenment and the cultivation of inner peace, with some Buddhist figures depicted holding jade items as a sign of spiritual grace.

Jade is thought to embody transformation. Its ability to resist breakage and retain its lustre despite time and use makes it a symbol of endurance. People believed that jade helped in the process of personal transformation, guiding the individual toward spiritual growth, wisdom, and longevity.
